This whole author thing isn’t what I expected…
I was working with a photographer once, back in the day when I was the design director of a music magazine, and he mentioned how much he loved doing author photos.
“Really?” I said. “I actually never care about what an author looks like.” And added, no offence to him, that I actively avoided the back flap, where said photo of the author tended to live.
How times have changed.

Actually, I don’t mind The Clock App as much as I thought I would. I also am not using it much these days as I’m in the midst of re-doing That Magic Mischief in order to dip my toe in the waters of self-publishing.
I had ‘er done up with my former literary agency’s assisted self-publishing unit, and come to find that none of the assets are going to be usable since I can’t edit any of them. Astonishingly unhelpful!
All that is to say, I had been doing lil TikTok oracle card readings, and they were fun, but I’ve lost the will – and need to wait until I’ve got the newest edition of TMM up and running. (I am IN LOVE with the new cover tho, so maybe it’s all for the best.) (Reveal to come!)
So yeah, blogging and newslettering and socials, oh my, when my dream was/is to be in the library and in supermarkets and have people read my books while I continue to be a cipher, unknowable, the same way I didn’t know a single thing about anyone who wrote the books I loved.
El-oh-el, no chance! I think I may build a new personality about my self-publishing journey* and see where that goes.
Watch this space…
Get up to date with The Shapeshifters of the Beau Monde… the next instalments of the series may be self-published too!
*The deep loathing I have for the use of ‘journey’ in this context cannot be plumbed.
